Conference Dinner & Gödel Prize Ceremony

Wednesday 9 July 2014, 19:00-24:00

Odd Fellow Palace

The 18th century Odd Fellow Palace sets the frame for the ICALP 2014 conference dinner, where we enjoy a delicious three course dinner. The 2014 Gödel Prize is presented, followed by a talk by award winner Moni Naor. Chamber music piece “The Hilbert Heartbreak Hotel”, composed by Niels Marthinsen and with lyrics by Ursula Andkjær Olsen, is given its premier performance by the ensemble Figura.

The Hilbert Hearbreak Hotel

Short film starring local chair Thore Husfeldt and composer Niels Martinsen about the idea of musically encoding the Peano axioms to illustrate the proof of Gödel's incompleteness theorem. This is combined with Ursula Andkjær Olsen's lyrics inspired by Hilbert's paradox of the Grand Hotel into the piece of music performed in association with the Gödel Prize ceremony.

More precise description given in Nature article: Enigmatic foundations of maths put to music.

The conference dinner is included in the fee when you register for the ICALP 2014 main conference. Extra tickets for accompanying persons are available.
